James Bond Studio MGM Is Now Owned By Amazon
One of the oldest movie studios in America, MGM, is now owned by Amazon. The retail and entertainment giant announced plans to buy MGM–the home of James Bond and other properties–in May 2021, and the deal has now cleared regulatory hurdles and is officially approved, Amazon announced in a press release. Amazon is paying $8.45 billion to acquire MGM.
In buying MGM, Amazon gains access to a library of more than 4,000 films and 17,000 TV episodes. Outside of James Bond, MGM holds the video game movie rights for Tomb Raider. Some of MGM’s other film franchises include Robocop, Rocky, Silence of the Lambs, The Pink Panther, Thelma & Louise, Legally Blonde, and Poltergeist. In terms of TV properties, MGM’s catalog includes The Handmaid’s Tale, Fargo, and Vikings.
Amazon also touted that MGM’s various properties have won more than 180 Academy Awards and 100 Emmy Awards over the years. With MGM now under Amazon’s wing, the company said it is now even better positioned to d…
James Gunn On Comic Book And Superhero Movies- "They're Mostly Boring For Me Right Now"
Movie director and writer James Gunn has shared his thoughts on the future of comic book and superhero films, calling them “really dumb” and “mostly boring for me right now.” Speaking to the Irish Times, Gunn said comic book and superhero films run the risk of fading in popularity if they don’t mix things up and try out new approaches.
“We know about the way cowboy films went, and the way war films went,” he said. “I don’t know, I think you don’t have to be a genius to put two and two together and see that there’s a cycle to those sorts of films, you know, and that the only hope for the future of the comic book and superhero films is to change them up. They’re really dumb. And they’re mostly boring for me right now.”
Gunn went on to say that he was a big fan of comic book and superhero movies at the beginning. He said he was blown away by the visual effects when he saw Superman as a kid. Later on, he was a big fan of Iron Man from Marvel, again, for the visual effects th…
Joker 2 May Be A Musical Starring Lady Gaga As Harley Quinn
New details have come to light about the Joker sequel, which is called Joker: Folie à deux. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will be a musical starring Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn alongside Joaquin Phoenix reprising his role as Joker.
2019’s Joker made $1.074 billion at the global box office and is the 33rd highest-grossing movie in the history of cinema, even outgrossing 2019’s other massive movie, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
According to THR, Gaga is in “early talks” to appear in Joker 2, but no deal has been made. However, Warner Bros. and Gaga’s team are reportedly “deep into” negotiations. Should the deal materialize, Gaga would play a new version of Quinn separate from Margot Robbie’s portrayal of the character.
Joker 2 will be once again written and directed by Todd Phillips, who also directed 2018’s A Star is Born starring Gaga and Bradley Cooper (who also produced Joker). The report had no information about the new musical angle for Joker…
Kanye West Documentary Coming To Netflix This Year, Report Says
A Kanye West documentary is in the works, and it just recently sold to Netflix for a huge price tag, according to Billboard. The documentary is planned as a series, and it is said to feature “over two decades” of footage regarding West’s life, including home videos.
Separately, Variety reported that the price tag that Billboard reported for the series–$30 million–is “not an accurate figure,” though the site didn’t say if it was too high or too low.
Whatever the case, the documentary series is said to reveal brand-new videos that cover topics like the death of West’s mother, his career in music, and what really happened with his run for president in 2020.
The series doesn’t have an official title yet, but we know it’s made by Clarence “Coodie” Simmons and Chike Ozah. They directed West’s music video for “Jesus Walks (Version 3)” and “Through the Wire.” The pair have also directed an ESPN 30 for 30 documentary and also music videos for the rapper Lupe Fiasco.

2K Teases "Exciting New Franchise" For Reveal This Month
2K Games, the publisher of titles like Borderlands, BioShock, NBA 2K, and more, will announce an “exciting” upcoming title that apparently hasn’t been announced yet later this month.
As part of parent company Take-Two’s latest earnings release, management announced that whatever this project is, it’ll be revealed this month. “Later this month, 2K will unveil details of another exciting new franchise planned for launch during this fiscal year,” the company said.
As TheGamer reminds us, this will be 2K’s first new franchise since 2016’s Battleborn.
Before E3, it was reported that XCOM developer Firaxis, which is part of 2K, was working on a Marvel strategy game, but as of yet, it’s unclear if this is the franchise that’s being revealed this month. Another possibility is that the reveal is the new title from former Call of Duty boss Michael Condrey. He is now leading a new 2K studio that’s reportedly making a multiplayer game. Lightning Returns- Final Fantasy XIII Review
“If I am a vessel, I am an empty one.”
So says Lightning, aka Claire Farron, aka the heroine of Final Fantasy XIII, and now, the heroine of Lightning Returns. And she’s right. In her newest adventure, Lightning is not interesting in and of herself, but because of what she means to others, and what others mean to her. To Bhunivelze–that is, God–she is the means of readying humanity for the new world soon to be born. To old friend Fang, she is the key to retrieving an artifact that holds untold power. As for Lightning, the only force driving her is her love for her dead-but-not-really sister Serah, and the possibility that they may be reunited–but even that possibility doesn’t stir Lightning’s emotions. Indeed, Lightning is a vessel for holding and pouring plot devices, but little more.
